Swimwear Trends 2016

Lets face it not many women love the thought of baring all to shop for a bikini. I know after having kids my body and in particular my boobs have never been the same! I can remember 5 years ago purchasing my first JETS bikini, they were beautifully made and suited my (wobbly) female form. Even my boobs looked awesome!

JETS is one of Australia’s premium luxury swimwear brands. To get a better idea of the upcoming trends I asked the very talented JETS designer Jessika Allen what we should look out for.

What colours and prints will be featured in 2016?
Summer 2016 will be all about worldly influences and exotic patterns, mixing-up prints, the art of the contrast and texture. As for colour, monochrome is bigger than ever. Also look out for nautical-inspired Ink and the warm orange hue of Valencia, which looks really beautiful on the skin. One of my favourite trends is the sleek look of infusing sports-luxe with clashing tones, as seen in the Optima story. We’ve paired key shades together like fiery Valencia and Ink or the classic combo of Black and White to create a look that commands attention.

What necklines and front details should we look out for?
Necklines are very important this season and at JETS we’ve really injected a fresh new feel. Popular styles to look out for include high neck designs with mesh overlay, ultra-glam deep plunges, modern cross- overs, keyhole fronts and under-bust buckles. However, the key style mantra you need to remember is ace the lace! This season is going to be all about lacing, eyelets and ladder detailing.

What about from behind?
A woman’s back is just as important as the front! It’s all about attention to detail with clever cuts and dramatic designs. A new shape you can expect to see is the brilliant ‘teardrop back’, which has a multi strap keyhole back and looks amazing on the body.

What will be happening below the belt?
This season at JETS we’re letting the detail do the talking in our bikini pant. With minimalist slick shapes, you can expect your bikini look to be dressed up with stylish cut-outs, hardware and statement waistbands.

What fabrics will be prominent?
At JETS we’ve really pushed the boundaries in experimenting with different textures. From sports net and mesh that creates an athletic aesthetic, we’ve also introduced sports elastic trims for an extremely fashion-forward look. Refreshed and bold, it’s all about new-wave style and edge.

Is there a past decade that swimwear is emulating?
There is definitely an influence on past decades in the shapes this season. The one-pieces are proving that taking the plunge is bigger than ever with a resurgence from the 80’s bringing through a lower neckline. I particularly adore the deep plunged V-neckline silhouette, which epitomises the JETS fashion-meets-function philosophy. As for bikini tops, there is a 1960’s inspiration with the Gidget bra shape, however we’ve modernised it with spliced detailing and cool sports elastic.
