Self-love isn't just a feel-good concept; it's a powerful practice backed by scientific insights. When we talk about self-love, we often focus on the emotional and spiritual aspects, but what is happening in our brains during these moments of self-compassion and care?

Neurological Nourishment: The Brain on Self-Love
When you engage in self-love practices, such as mindfulness, affirmations, or even the simple act of saying no for your own well-being, you're actually doing some heavy lifting on a neurological level. The brain responds to these acts of self-kindness by releasing a cocktail of beneficial chemicals.

1. Serotonin Surge: Often called the 'feel-good' neurotransmitter, serotonin plays a pivotal role in staving off depression and regulating anxiety. Practices like gratitude journaling or positive self-talk can boost serotonin levels, enhancing your mood and overall sense of peace.

2. Dopamine Dose: This neurotransmitter is linked to the brain's reward system. When you celebrate small victories or treat yourself with kindness, dopamine is released. This not only makes you feel happier but also motivates you to continue engaging in self-loving behaviors.

3. Oxytocin Overflow: Known as the 'love hormone,' oxytocin is released during acts of care, including when you're kind to yourself. Whether it’s through physical self-care like a warm bath or emotional self-care such as connecting with a loved one, oxytocin helps reduce stress levels and makes you feel connected and secure.

Self-love practices also play a crucial role in managing your body’s stress response. Engaging in mindfulness or deep breathing exercises can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, the calm counterpart to our fight-or-flight response. This shift can reduce cortisol levels, lower your heart rate, and ease tension, creating a tranquil mind and body.

Rewiring the Brain: Neuroplasticity and Self-Love
One of the most exciting aspects of self-love is its ability to change the brain’s structure and function thanks to something called neuroplasticity. Each time you practice self-compassion, you strengthen neural pathways that enhance resilience and emotional regulation. Over time, these pathways become more robust, making self-loving responses more automatic. 

How Self-Love Became My Inner Voice
This morning, I had one of those moments where I could see my self-love journey in action. I was about to start exercising, but I felt tired. That old voice, the one that used to tell me I wasn’t strong enough, that maybe I should just skip it, was nowhere to be found. Instead, as I dropped down for my first push-up, I heard myself say:


"You’re strong."

And then, something even better happened. I noticed that I was encouraging myself. And I praised myself for praising myself! It hit me in that moment, this is self-love in action. Not just a practice, not just a concept, but a rewired way of thinking.

There was a time when my mind wasn’t my support partner. I used to believe I was weak, lazy, that I was failing. Through acts of self-love such as affirmations, mindfulness, and self-compassion, I’ve rewired my brain. Now, my mind supports me rather than sabotaging me.

And this is what I want for you, too.

So, the next time you take a deep breath, instead of listening to the inner critic, reflect on your strength, resilience, beauty and remember: you're not just indulging in a moment of peace, you’re actively rewiring your brain for self-love

It’s Not ‘Up Yourself’ to Love Yourself

I can’t tell you how many times I was told as a child, “You’re so up yourself.” And let me tell you, I wasn’t. Not even close. I was shy, self-conscious, and riddled with anxiety. But I loved dressing up, playing with style, and shock horror catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror!

Apparently, that was a crime.

The truth is, those comments weren’t really about me at all. They were about the outdated belief that self-love is the same as arrogance, that confidence is something to be knocked down, and that women, in particular, should dim their light to make others comfortable.

Well, I call that absolutely rubbish.
 
Self-Love Isn’t Selfish - It’s Essential
Somewhere along the way, I realised that loving myself wasn’t a bad thing. In fact, it was the very thing that would change my life. Because when you love yourself, you show up differently. You stand taller, make better choices, and stop seeking validation from people who don’t have your best interests at heart. And you know what? That energy is contagious. It seeps into your relationships, your career, and your ability to handle life’s curveballs.

Self-love isn’t about thinking you’re better than anyone else. It has nothing to do with comparison. It’s about knowing you’re enough, just as you are.
 
Breaking Free from the ‘Up Yourself’ Label
Over the years, I’ve been told I’m “up myself” for the most ridiculous reasons:
  • Feeling proud of my achievements.
  • Owning my confidence.
  • Loving my personal style.
  • Simply looking at myself in the mirror without criticism.
Imagine that! The simple act of existing with self-acceptance was enough to ruffle feathers.
But guess what? When people aren’t comfortable with their own self-worth, they often project their discomfort onto others. Their reaction isn’t about you; it’s about them.

Let’s Rewrite the Narrative
It’s time to stop apologising for loving who we are. Self-love isn’t arrogance. It’s not vanity. It’s the foundation of our well-being.

When you embrace self-love, you:
✨ Build resilience and confidence.
✨ Set healthier boundaries.
✨ Attract relationships that support and uplift you.
✨ Improve your mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
And perhaps most importantly, you stop wasting energy trying to make yourself smaller for the comfort of others.

Loving yourself isn’t “up yourself” it’s a radical act of self-care in a world that profits from your insecurity. So stand tall. Celebrate yourself. Take up space. And if anyone tries to shame you for it? Let them sit with their own discomfort. You’ve got better things to do like living your life with joy and confidence.

As we step into the new year, I find myself pondering a phrase I've heard often: "turning problems into solutions." I get the concept, and it sounds simple enough, but let’s be honest, when you're stressed, worried, and overwhelmed with problems, finding a solution can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Recently, though, I stumbled upon a slightly different perspective that really made me think what about turning problems into goals?
 
Sounds a bit crazy, right? The last thing any of us wants is to make our problems into our goals. But, bear with me for a moment. When we start to unpack this idea, it begins to make a lot of sense. Essentially, when we understand that what we truly desire is the opposite of our problems, we can begin to see these challenges as signposts pointing us toward our real goals.
 
This shift in perspective doesn't trivialise the issues we face; rather, it empowers us to navigate through them with a clearer vision. It’s about transforming the 'I can’t' into 'I can', and moving from feeling powerless to finding actionable steps that not only address these issues but turn them into opportunities for growth and positive change.

Embrace Change, Embrace Growth
Change is inevitable, but growth is a choice. When faced with challenges whether they concern finances, relationships, or personal aspirations, we can choose to resist or to embrace. Embracing challenges isn't about accepting defeat; it’s about seeing each as a catalyst for transformation. Psychologically, this shift helps us move from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, where challenges are opportunities for learning and development.

Moreover, quantum physics introduces us to the idea that everything in the universe is part of a vast, interconnected field, the quantum field. This principle suggests that our thoughts can influence this field and manifest real changes in our world. When we view our problems through this lens, we're not just tackling isolated issues; we’re interacting with a dynamic system that responds to our actions and intentions.

Declare Your Intentions, Shape Your Future
The act of setting intentions is profoundly transformative. Intentions are more than goals; they are declarations of how we choose to align our spirit, mind, and actions. By clearly articulating our intentions, we send a powerful message to the universe about our desires and aspirations. This clarity not only motivates us but also attracts the energies, resources, and opportunities aligned with our aims.

When our intentions are clear, every choice gains significance, and every action becomes purposeful. It's about embodying the qualities and achievements we seek, shaping not only what we accomplish but also who we become. The universe collaborates with our intentions, often bringing the right people, books, or mentors into our lives at the perfect time to guide and support our journeys.

Cultivate Trust, Harness Peace

Trust is a cornerstone of any meaningful journey. It’s about trusting in the universal plan and our ability to navigate it. Cultivating trust reduces stress by calming the limbic system, which governs our emotions and fear responses. This inner peace clears the mind, enhancing our ability to think creatively and connect with profound truths.

This trust extends beyond mere optimism; it is an active engagement with the universe. When we trust that each experience is part of our path, we open ourselves to receive guidance and gifts. Whether it’s through meeting a healer, discovering a transformative book, or finding a mentor, these are not coincidences, but alignments orchestrated by the universe in response to our intentions and actions.

By integrating trust into our daily practices, we do more than soothe our minds, we open ourselves to a universe where every moment is ripe with potential, every challenge a hidden opportunity, and every encounter a step toward greater enlightenment.

Transforming problems into goals begins by understanding what we don’t want, which helps to illuminate what we truly desire. Here are steps to guide you through this process, with examples to help you apply these principles based on your personal circumstances:
 
1. Identify and Understand:
  • Recognise what isn’t working for you and why. If your current job leaves you feeling undervalued, acknowledge that feeling as a sign pointing towards a need for a more appreciative work environment.
2. Set Specific Objectives:
  • Turn your realisations into actionable goals. For example, if you don’t want to feel undervalued, set a goal to find a job or project where your contributions are recognised and valued.
3. Create a Roadmap:
  • Plan specific steps to achieve your objectives. This might involve updating your CV, reaching out to contacts in industries you admire, or setting up meetings with your current supervisors to discuss your role and recognition.
4. Seek Alignment: Incorporate Micro-Habits:
  • Introduce small daily or weekly actions that align with your new goals. If seeking a more rewarding job, you could start by dedicating an hour each week to professional development or networking.
5. Reflect and Adapt:
  • Regularly review your progress towards your new goals. If you find that your actions aren’t leading you to feel more valued, consider what adjustments can be made, perhaps seeking additional feedback or exploring new opportunities.

  • Personal Development: If you realise, you're not growing personally, engage in activities that challenge you, like learning a new skill or language.
  • Health: If you're unhappy with your current health, start by incorporating more physical activity into your daily routine or improving your diet.
  • Relationships: If you feel disconnected, aim to improve communication or spend more quality time with loved ones.
  • Career: If feeling undervalued at work, look for opportunities where your efforts are recognised or discuss with your employer how to better showcase your contributions.
  • Spirituality: If seeking deeper spiritual connections, dedicate time for meditation, spiritual reading, or join a community that shares your spiritual values.
 
By allowing yourself to be guided by what feels right, you can tailor these steps to fit your unique situation, ensuring that each change brings you closer to a life that feels fulfilling and true to your desires.

As we turn our problems into goals, we not only elevate ourselves but also set a powerful example for those around us. By embracing change and proactively addressing our challenges, we show that obstacles are not just hurdles to be overcome, but opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
This journey isn’t just about personal transformation, it’s about collective empowerment. Each step we take towards our goals can inspire our friends, family, and community to approach their own challenges with a renewed perspective and determination.

Step Into Clarity: Reflect, Release, and Renew

When I think of Christmas, I think of family. For many, this season brings joy, warmth, and connection. But it’s also a time when emotions can run high. As Ram Dass wisely said, “If you think you’re enlightened, spend a week with your family.”

Family gatherings have a way of stirring up old emotions, pulling us into long-forgotten roles—the peacekeeper, the organiser, the one who gets picked on, or even the teaser. And while these roles may be familiar, they can also feel heavy.

Then there’s the grief, the quiet ache of missing loved ones who are no longer with us. Christmas has a way of making their presence felt even more deeply, whether it’s a pet who once curled up under the tree, a friend who used to make you laugh, or a family member whose seat at the table remains empty.

I’ve found comfort in honouring their memory. I love to light a candle and say a prayer for them - a simple but meaningful way to keep their spirit close. It’s a small ritual that's a reminder that love doesn’t end, even when someone is no longer physically here.

Amidst the giving, the gatherings, and the inevitable hustle and bustle, I’ve also learned the importance of honouring myself. Christmas can be overwhelming, with so much to do and so many emotions in the air. Taking time to pause, reflect, and nurture myself has become an essential part of how I move through the season.

Here’s a simple process to reflect, release, and renew - so you can step Into clarity for 2025. 

1. Reflect: Embrace Gratitude and Awareness
Take some time to ask yourself:
  • What moments brought me joy, growth, or unexpected blessings?
  • What challenges helped me become stronger or wiser?
  • Who or what am I most grateful for - including those I’ve loved and lost?
Tip: Send little messages of gratitude this Christmas to let others know you care. A kind word or a heartfelt note not only brings warmth to their day but fills your heart with love too.

2. Release: Let Go of What No Longer Serves You
Consider what you’d like to release:
  • Old habits or beliefs that no longer align with who you are.
  • Resentments or unresolved emotions that weigh on your heart.
  • The pressure to meet unrealistic expectations - yours or others’.
Tip: Write down what you want to release on paper, and if it feels right, safely burn it. Watch as those heavy thoughts dissolve, making way for freedom and lightness.

3. Renew: Set Intentions with Clarity and Purpose
Ask yourself:
  • What kind of energy do I want to bring into my life?
  • What new creations would I like to bring to fruition?
  • What small, meaningful steps can I take to align with my heart’s desires?
Tip: Create a mantra to guide you, such as: “I accept the past and embrace the present.” or "I welcome abundance, creativity, and love into my life." Repeat these daily to anchor your intentions.

Have you ever stopped to think about how many choices we make on autopilot? From the moment we wake up, we’re faced with countless decisions - what to wear, what to eat, what to do first. And most of the time, we breeze through them without giving it a second thought. But what if we started paying attention to the little choices we make every day? What if we approached them with intention and care?

I’ve found that practicing conscious decision-making in the small, everyday moments creates a ripple effect, making the big decisions feel easier and more aligned. And the best part? It helps us build a deep sense of trust within ourselves.

The Art of Choosing What to Wear
Every morning, like most of us, I stand in front of my wardrobe, choosing what to wear for the day. In the past, this was something I rushed through, picking whatever was convenient or familiar. But there came a point in my journey, especially as a stylist, where I began to see my clothing as more than just fabric - it became an expression of how I was feeling, or wanted to feel, that day.

I started to ask myself questions: Does this outfit align with who I am today? Do I feel empowered in this? Is this choice loving towards myself?

These seemingly small decisions became moments of mindfulness. Instead of just throwing something on, I consciously chose pieces that made me feel confident, connected, and true to myself. It might sound simple, but practicing this kind of awareness with my wardrobe spilled over into other areas of my life.

Practicing Consciousness in the Little Things
When we start to bring awareness to these small, daily choices, it builds a foundation of trust. If you can trust yourself to make loving, thoughtful decisions about what you wear, it becomes easier to trust yourself with the bigger life choices - like what career path to follow, how to nurture relationships, or even how to care for your spiritual wellbeing.

The more I practiced conscious decision-making with the little things - what to wear, what to eat for breakfast, how to spend my first hour of the day - the more natural it felt to do the same with the bigger choices.

It became second nature to ask myself:
  • Is this in alignment with my values?
  • Does this choice serve my higher good?
  • Am I making this decision out of fear or love?

Building Trust Within
When we live on autopilot, we often lose touch with that inner voice that guides us. We might even second-guess ourselves when faced with bigger decisions because we’re not used to tuning in and listening. But when we practice mindful, conscious decision-making daily, we build that muscle. We learn to trust ourselves again.

Trusting yourself is one of the most empowering gifts you can give to your inner being. It’s about knowing that, no matter what life throws at you, you have the ability to make choices that are in alignment with your heart, your values, and your higher purpose.

How to Start Practicing Conscious Decision-Making
So how can you start practicing conscious decision-making in your own life? Here are a few tips that have worked for me:

  1. Start Small: You don’t have to overhaul your life overnight. Begin with something simple, like choosing what to wear in the morning, or how to spend your lunch break. Bring awareness to that moment and ask yourself if the choice feels aligned with who you are.
  2. Pause Before Acting: Before making any decision, big or small, pause for a moment. Take a breath. Give yourself the space to make the choice from a place of love and intention, rather than rushing through it.
  3. Listen to Your Body and Emotions: Your body is an incredible guide. Pay attention to how you feel when you’re making a decision. Do you feel tense or uneasy? Or do you feel calm and peaceful? Your body often gives you clues about whether a choice is in alignment with your inner truth.
  4. Ask Empowering Questions: Just like I do with my wardrobe, ask yourself empowering questions when making decisions. Does this choice align with my values? Will this action bring me closer to my goals? Does this choice feel loving towards myself?

The Big Decisions Become Easier
When we practice conscious decision-making regularly, we create a foundation of trust within ourselves. It’s as if we’re building a relationship with our inner voice, learning to rely on it as a trusted guide. And when the time comes to make a big decision, it feels less daunting because we’ve been training for it all along.

Conscious decision-making helps you show up in life with more clarity, confidence, and a deeper sense of self-love. It’s not about getting it right every time — it’s about bringing awareness, intention, and love to every moment, and trusting that each choice, no matter how small, leads you closer to your true path.

So, next time you’re standing in front of your wardrobe, or deciding what to eat, or thinking about how to spend your time, pause for a moment. Take a deep breath. Ask yourself, What would my heart choose?

Life AFter Death

For years, I was sceptical of psychics and mediums, often trying to explain away dreams, visions, or voices as mere coincidences. It wasn't until my own experiences changed my perspective that I began to believe these encounters were real. I've been working as a psychic medium, specialising in evidential mediumship, for over four years now. This approach focuses on providing specific, verifiable information.

Recently, the loss of loved ones reminded me how challenging it can be to connect during grief. In December, my favourite uncle passed away, and just a few weeks ago, in April, we lost my dear father-in-law. Grief can make it difficult to feel their presence, but through acceptance, I've found it easier to connect with them. It takes time and practice, but the comfort and guidance they offer are worth it.

Insights on the Afterlife

​Being a psychic medium doesn’t make me immune to grief. However, I find immense comfort in knowing that there is life after death. Some of the most profound lessons I’ve learned have come from my own loved ones who have communicated with me from the other side.

Messages through dreams: My mum's brother, Uncle Gary (my favourite), after his passing came to me in a dream. He was dancing, looking happy and free, which brought me comfort. I felt the presence of many spirits at his funeral, including my Nan and Pop. I asked them what they were doing there, and they explained that they were learning about the impact of Uncle Gary’s life. They conveyed that every action, from raising children to being a good friend, and even a simple smile to a stranger on the street, was acknowledged as a form of impact.

Connection through meditation: A few years ago involved my uncle Paul, who was mentally impaired from birth and lived in England. I had only met him a few times in my life, so I was surprised when he visited me during a meditation. He appeared completely healed, wearing a suit, and wanted to let me know that he was doing well and was looking out for me. When I asked my dad why his brother would show up in a suit, he explained that Uncle Paul always loved wearing suits. This detail, which I had no prior knowledge of, reinforced the truth of the connection.

Connection through conversation: The recent passing of my husband’s father was a massive shock to us all. I immediately tried to contact him but was told he was busy catching up with his late wife, mother, father and sister. He needed time in what I understood to be a sort of retreat to adjust to his new state. After almost a week, he communicated with me, jokingly saying, “Who’d have thought I’d be speaking to you like this?” His humour came through straight away, this provided much comfort to my husband and myself. 

Connecting with the spirit world are like speaking another language. Each of us has our own communication strengths. For me, I can hear, see, and sense the messages. These experiences continually remind me of the profound connections that transcend physical existence and provide solace in times of grief.

Signs from Loved Ones
If you’re navigating grief, remember that our loved ones continue to watch over us, sending signs of their presence and love. Here are a few signs and ways to foster this connection:


  • Birds and Butterflies: Seeing a bird or butterfly at a significant moment can be a sign from your loved one.
  • Rainbows: A rainbow can serve as a beautiful reminder of their presence.
  • Songs: Hearing a particular song on the radio can be a message from beyond.
  • Meditation: Spend quiet time in meditation, focusing on your loved one. This can help you feel their presence and receive their messages.
  • Journaling: Writing down your thoughts, memories, and any signs you believe are from your loved one can strengthen your connection and provide comfort.
  • Letter Writing: Write a message directly to your loved one, it can be immensely healing, offering a way to express your feelings and maintain a dialogue with them.
  • Creating a Sacred Space: Dedicate a small area in your home to your loved one, filled with their photos, belongings, and anything that reminds you of them.

The Power of Our Inner Stories

Lately, I've been deeply reflecting on how our minds work, especially how we take individual occurrences and weave them into a larger narrative. It’s fascinating and somewhat daunting to realise that these narratives can be positive or negative, even if they might not be entirely true.

Our brains are incredible at storytelling: From a single event, our minds can create an elaborate narrative that shapes our perception of ourselves and the world around us. For instance, one negative experience can snowball into a broader narrative of failure or inadequacy, while a positive event can boost our self-esteem and shape a narrative of success and capability.

The stories we tell ourselves are powerful: They influence our emotions, our actions, and ultimately, our lives. But here's the catch: these narratives aren't always accurate. Often, they are coloured by our past experiences, biases, and fears. A single misstep can turn into a story of constant failure, just as a single achievement can be woven into a tale of unending success.

Through my journey of mindfulness and self-reflection: I've noticed how I sometimes cling to negative narratives. These stories, often rooted in childhood trauma or past hurts, can feel overwhelmingly real. They serve as a form of protection, a way for our minds to prepare for the worst. But in reality, they can limit us, keeping us stuck in a cycle of negative thinking.

On the flip side, recognising this pattern is the first step towards change. By becoming aware of the stories we tell ourselves, we can start to question their validity. Are these narratives based on a few isolated incidents? Are they influenced by past trauma or fear? And most importantly, are they serving us in a positive way?

Shifting these narratives isn’t about ignoring past hurts or pretending negative events never happened.

It's about reframing our stories in a way that empowers us rather than holds us back. We can choose to see ourselves as resilient and capable, even if we've faced significant challenges. We can create new, positive narratives that reflect our strength, growth, and potential.

Are they true, or are they based on selective memories and past fears? By questioning and reframing these narratives, we can open up new possibilities for growth and self-love.

The Garden of Eden

Today, I want to share a story with you – a story that, while ancient, carries timeless wisdom about the journey of growth, choice, and the freedom to be our true selves.

Once upon a time, in a garden so lush and vast that it seemed like a slice of heaven itself, there lived the first humans, Adam and Eve. This paradise, called Eden, was a wonderland – with trees that whispered secrets, flowers that sang in the breeze, and animals of every kind living in peace. At the heart of Eden stood a very curious tree, known as the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

God, who was like a parent to Adam and Eve, shared with them the bounty of this magical garden. She said, "You can enjoy everything here. But that tree in the middle? Its fruit is a bit different. Best to leave that be." It wasn’t a command to test their obedience but an invitation to explore the depths of their free will – a gift She deeply cherished.

Like curious children in the world’s most enchanting sweet shop, Adam and Eve were drawn to the one thing they were advised to avoid. And when they tasted the fruit, their eyes were opened to the complexity of the world, marking the beginning of a journey filled with choices, mistakes, and growth.

What followed was not a story of disobedience but one of learning to embrace our choices, understand their impact, and navigate the beautiful messiness of being human. It’s about how we deal with our decisions, own up to them, and move forward with a heart full of love and eyes wide open to the wonders around us.

This ancient narrative invites us to see our own lives reflected in the garden of Eden – a place where every choice we make contributes to our journey of growth and self-discovery. It’s a reminder that we’re not expected to be perfect but to be brave, to make choices that reflect our true selves, and to learn from them with grace.

In everyday life, it's easy to overlook the impact of the small choices we make, from opting for a morning walk to deciding what to have for lunch or catching up with a friend. Recognising that every decision, big or small, empowers us is key, especially when facing larger challenges. By being more mindful of our choices, we gain control over our lives, enhancing our confidence and clarity for bigger decisions.

Here are three practical steps to help you become more aware of your daily choices:

Start a Choice Diary: Take a moment at the end of each day to write down your decisions, no matter how minor they seem. This can help reinforce your sense of autonomy and prepare you for more significant choices.

Watch Your Words: Notice when you're about to assign blame or obligation, such as saying "I have to," and instead, acknowledge your power of choice by saying "I choose to" or "I want to." This shift helps us take responsibility for our decisions and actions, rather than placing blame or feeling obligated."

Set Small Intentions: Each morning, set a few simple intentions for the day. This practice helps remind you of your control over your day, building confidence for bigger challenges.

In the spirit of exploring the divine, let's recognise the power in our choices, big and small, giving us the freedom to shape our lives just the way we want. By embracing this freedom, life takes on a whole new meaning, full of purpose and direction. Let's make intentional choices that lead us where we truly want to go.
