How to create a stylish casual outfit with a shorts
Shorts are my go-to weekend item especially in warmer weather. They are the perfect thing to wear outdoors, whether it’s to attend kids’ sports or a casual breakfast with friends or family.
Step 1 - Choose your shorts
This season there are plenty of styles to choose from. There's denim in every shade and colour. From printed styles such as floral and checks to a multitude of lengths from knee length Bermuda, mid-thigh length and short shorts.
Step 2 - Pick your top
You could choose a printed blouse or a long sleeve button up that you can tie in a knot. Alternatively, you could wear a simple t-shirt. With a printed pair of shorts, you can add colour. Black and white print will look great mixed with yellow, red or watermelon.
Step 3 - Add accessories
The real secret to make your shorts look stylish is the right accessories. For example, adding a colourful scarf.
Choose your bag
For weekends out and about you could do a crossover style. Look for natural fabrics such as leather or straw, and earthy colours like tan.
Add a belt
If your shorts have belt loops you can add a tan belt to go with your bag or a coloured belt to brighten the look.
Wear some jewellery
Choose a piece that ties the look together. It could be a necklace, bracelet or some earrings.
Pick your shoes
What you put on your feet has a massive impact on the entire look and feel of your outfit. A go-to with shorts is often a pair of thongs (and I do love my Havaianas) as they’re perfect to wear to the beach. To make your outfit look a bit dressier, you can try a pair of closed toe styles such as runners/walking shoes like Vans or Converse, or a ballet flat or loafer. If you would like to wear an open toe you could try a sandal or a pair of espadrille wedges.
