How Not to Fear the CameraDo you feel awkward being photographed? Do you avoid having being in photos whenever possible? Does the thought of being tagged online in a photo make you cringe?
Before I discovered the tricks to getting a good shot I used to despise having my photo taken. My dislike for being in front of the camera started on school photo days! Due to my shortness I was always placed in the front row. For me it felt like they may as well put a sign on my head saying ‘shorty’. (At least the sign would have made me look taller!) Seven Style Mistakes Mums MakeLike most mums, my first priority is my children. Mother guilt plays a huge role in my life and trying to balance work and family life is a constant struggle. As a mother to three teenagers and step-mother to three adult children, I’m good at putting myself last. In the past by not taking the time to look after me, I unknowingly made many fashion faux pas including some of the ones listed below.
Mistake #1 Wearing active wear all day (especially if you never exercise!) Gym gear has its place in every wardrobe but it should not be made up entirely of active wear. It might be easy and comfortable but it's far from stylish. The simple solution is to have a shower and get changed after your morning gym session. The added bonus is you won’t be walking around the rest of the day smelling sweaty. Alternatively if you are due to go to the gym later in the day take your active wear with you and get changed when you arrive. The Key to Accessorising
Accessorising is the difference between looking good and looking great. If you are the type of girl that wears the occasional necklace and stud earrings, accessorising might seem complicated and a little daunting. Your accessories can dramatically change the look and feel of your outfit, they have the power to make your outfits go from day to night, classic to creative and casual to feminine. It's personal Jewellery tends to be a personal item that is best chosen by the wearer as it a great way to show off your personality. Most people have a preference between gold and silver but experimenting by mixing metals can modernise your look. Knowing your bone structure is key to determining the size of jewellery that suits you. For instance if you are petite a large necklace may overwhelm your small frame likewise if you are tall a dainty necklace can get lost. Co-ordination Whether it's a scarf or a bag the piece should enhance, not detract from what you're wearing. You are meant to be the center of attention, not the jangle of your bangles. Choose one wow piece, like coloured earrings and keep other accessories to a minimum. Don’t be afraid to mix colour, aim for shades that compliment each other, mix brights with brights and pastels with pastels. Easy finds and best buys Constantly be on the look out. Places like Colette, Diva, Equip and Myer have lots fashionable pieces to choose from at great prices. Local boutiques and markets tend to have unique one-of-a-kind items and handmade pieces. If you prefer more timeless styles you’ll find these at traditional jewellers like Michael Hill and Angus and Coote. |
