Confessions of a Last-Minute Shopper

How to be a Speedy Shopper

Have you ever been asked to an event and realised you had nothing to wear? Welcome to my life! The reality for me is most of the time I do have something to wear, but I want something new. For example, this week I decided that I wanted a new dress to wear at the races, even though I have 25 dresses that would suit the occasion (I literally counted them).

This left me with the dilemma of finding a dress two days out from the event. It isn’t the first time this has happened and it won’t be the last! My husband always tells me I wouldn’t get anything done if it wasn’t for the last minute. Thankfully I have become very skilled at finding the perfect outfit in a limited time for clients and myself. If you are short on time and need to speed shop below are my top tips!

Have a Flexible Vision
It is important to know the dress code for the occasion and envisage your preferred style. However, try not to be too specific and get hung up on the details, for example: If you are wanting a red dress, with red shoes and a red bag you might be disappointed when the shades don’t match. Be flexible try new styles and colour combinations.

Train Your Eyes to Look for Colour
Clothing stores are jam packed with heaps of stock. It’s vital to clear the clutter and focus on specific pieces. I have found it much easier to search for colour and avoid black. This dramatically increases your chances of finding something in a short amount of time.

Be a Hunter Gatherer
Once you have started your hunt and you are finding pieces that might work, the next step is to take as many pieces into the change room as possible. There is nothing more time consuming than going back and forth from the dressing room, trying items on and then going back out to look for more.

Ask for Help
Get a second opinion on your outfit. It does not have to be from the store assistant, it helps to get an unbiased view from a stranger. This week, I asked some shoppers who were in the change room what they thought of my dress and I received the thumbs up! They were extra helpful by enquiring about my choice of shoes and accessories. Shout out to Karen and Kelli, thanks a million!

Through being flexible, choosing colour and asking for help, you can end up with exciting results in a short amount of time.

Happy Speed Shopping!
