Essential Pieces to Pack for a Summer Cruise!

This year I've been fortunate enough to go on two cruises! One was a three night comedy cruise out of Brisbane and the other was a four night cruise out of Cairns to Airlie Beach. On both cruises I spent the whole time eating, sleeping, eating some more, drinking and then more sleeping. Due to this I would avoid tight fitting clothing, so my tummy could expand unnoticed, haha!

From my cruise experiences I've discovered the must have items to pack!

1. Summer Swimwear

Going on a summer holiday is the perfect opportunity to buy a new swimsuit.

This season's cutout one-pieces are a popular trend, along with mismatched bikinis.

2. A Nifty Kaftan

Wearing a designer kaftan will make you feel glamorous while lounging by the pool.

Kaftans make it possible to go from poolside to lunch without getting changed! This comes in handy as most restaurants will not let you enter in swimwear.

3. Colourful Scarves

Scarves are the perfect item to keep the sun off your shoulders.

They are also a great accessory to dress up a plain outfit.

As a bonus larger scarves can be used as a sarong.

4. Ship Shorts

A comfy pair of shorts are great for exploring the ship.

This is also safe choice during the day as there are plenty of chances  a dress will blow up in the breeze.

5. The Humble Tee

This is the perfect excuse to bring out your nautical stripes! Also look for fun prints such as flamingoes or birds.

6. Versatile Dresses

Loose fitting dresses such as shift and shirt styles hide a multitude of overindulgence.

Be sure to take a couple of options that you can wear during the day with sandals or dress up at night with a pair of heels.

7. Slip On Shoes

A pair of thongs or sandals are my go to for walking around the ship.

A pair of ballet flats are a fabulous smart casual choice for day and night.

Some specialty restaurants have a formal dress code. A pair of wedges or heels is an easy way to feel dressed up. Take caution if the ship is rocky.

8. Stylish Accessories

A wide brim hat will keep the sun off your face.

Sunnies are a must, wear polaroid lenses to stop the glare.

Earrings dress up any outfit. My favourite this season is a pair of tassels.

Wear a sparkly lanyard. This doubles as a necklace and is a practical addition  to look after you room card.

Don't forget to pack some dress ups!
Many ships have themed nights such as Gatsby, Bianco (white party) and Back to School. It might seem lame, but when everyone is walking around in costume you don't want to feel left out.

Enjoy putting together your nautical suitcase and you never know, I might see you on your next cruise!
