What's old is new again!

Vintage fashion is always in style. Pieces were made to pass the test of time, tailor made perfectly to suit the individual. Vintage clothing can be elegant, fun or relaxed depending on the era. For example the 1920s were feminine and sophisticated, the 1950s were bright and bold and the 70s had earthy colour tones in relaxed boho styles.

What’s your era
Different eras favour different in-vogue body shapes. Knowing the styles that suit your body shape will save you time when trying on clothing.  In the 40s and 50s it was voluptuous, curvy hourglass figures like Marilyn Munroe. In the 60s it was ultra thin and rectangular like Twiggy, and in the 70s it was wide leg or flared pants, jumpsuits, long flowing peasant skirts and dresses  - think Farrah Fawcett or Jerry Hall.

Mix old with new
To keep you from looking like you found an item the back of the closet, mix modern styles with original vintage pieces. For example you could pair a 1960s sequin top with some skinny jeans or a 1950s style dress with a modern belt and heels. If you have an evening or cocktail event, wearing a stylish gown and vintage costume jewellery will give your outfit a real ‘wow’ factor. You can also add a vintage brooch to a solid colour top

Find a tailor
Many of the fabrics, colours and patterns are no longer available today. If you find a bargain piece and love the fabric but the size or length isn’t quite right, a small alteration may be all it takes to make it perfect.
