London and New York Fashion Week (As seen in the Cairns Eye)

From the runway to the streets, these are the colour and print trends for 2015. 

Colours:
The colour grey will forever be synonymous with the 50 Shades of Grey phenomena. Designers from London to New York have jumped in on the buzz and covered the runway in grey, from light shades to deep charcoal. The grey tones shown looked great mixed with pops of colour. Designers such as ICB and Hugo Boss added yellow and orange to their grey collection. Black was featured heavily; Sass & Bide mixed black with stunning gold and silver metallic fabrics. Calvin Klein’s range included black and tan; interest was created with textures like woven fabrics and leather. Many designers, including Vera Wang, went with a classic monochrome combination of black and white. The majority of accent colours be shown on the runway were bright reds (Daks), electric blue (Banana Republic) and shots of purple (Cynthia Rowley).

Prints:
Christian Siriano had the eye of tiger with his jungle inspired animal prints. Snake, leopard and zebra also made an appearance in various collections such as Nicole Miller.  The florals were striking with a definite 70s vibe, Pedro Del Hierro featured clean lime, blue and purple flowers and Diane von Furstenberg also created high contrast with purple and orange nature print. Checks and plaids are the geometric print of the season. The Zimmermann collection displayed oversized squares, while Lacoste’s check was reminiscent of a chessboard.

Fabrics:
Shimmer, sheer, feathers and fur were at both the London and New York shows. The J.Crew collection was made to party with a rainbow glitter shown in a jacket and dress. Christopher Kane displayed glistening red, blue and green dresses. Ralph Lauren’s collection had plenty of feathers and fur in neutral palate of cappuccino.

Key trends you can incorporate into your wardrobe:
1. Mr Grey: Grey is a great staple colour for pants, skirts and dresses, and mixes well with most other colours.
2. Pop colour: Add bright accessories such as a scarf or necklace to break up neutral outfits.
3. Jungle love: Wear animal print; if you feel it’s too dramatic in clothing, try it in a pair of shoes. 
4. Check it out: A black and white checked shirt is the perfect addition to a work wardrobe.
