Creating an authentically dressed you!

Why is a powerful question, I always ask my clients ‘why’, particularly when going through their wardrobe. Why did you choose this piece of clothing? The most popular replies are; “It fit”, “The sales assistant liked it”, “I was desperate” or my favourite “It was on sale”.

Why you choose the clothing you do, determines the outcome of your overall look. If you buy things ‘just because’, your wardrobe will end up a mix of mismatched, uninspiring pieces. This leads to resentment of your wardrobe, and sometimes yourself. It’s easy to blame your body when the clothes don’t fit but remember, it’s always the clothes fault! No wonders so many women begin to loath shopping. For many it ends up feeling like a depressing chore.
Why should what you wear matter?
It shouldn’t matter, and it doesn’t matter if you never leave the bedroom. Unfortunately wherever you go you are judged. People make assumptions about what job you have, your income, your relationship status, how old or young you are. Whilst people also judge us on our personality, experience and reputation often the first impression is how we look.

Do you wear clothes to stand out or fit in?
Your clothes are a reflection of you and when you feel confident with your look your self-assuredness is amplified into other areas of your life. The flow on effects in my client’s lives is incredible. They have lost weight, bought houses, met spouses, been hired, promoted and climbed mountains; all after simply changing the way they dress.

How you can create authenticity through your style?

Step 1. Who are you?

What are your best qualities? What do you love? What item in your wardrobe makes you feel fantastic? Is it a pair of heels, a dress, a colour or a print? Describe how you feel when you wear it for example; sexy, modern, stylish, fun, relaxed, creative, happy, unique, strong, confident. These are your key style words and will help you to determine the personality style of your clothing.

Step 2. What do you need?

You might need clothes, for work, weekends, weddings or other events. Make a list of the items you need, is it a day dress, shorts, jeans, blouses, smart casual tops, shoes, bag. This will be your guide to finding items you require.

Step 3. What are your best bits?

You need to show off your assets. Focus on the good parts of your body.  Is it your shoulders, waist, legs, boobs or eyes? Look for clothing that enhances your shape not hides it! Incorporate your key style elements through your accessories. For example wear a bold necklace, one-of-a-kind earrings, sparkly rings or printed shoes.

Feminine Style
What you wear is your ability to express to the world who you are, without saying a word. Whenever you put something on and think to yourself this is so me, try to replicate that detail so you feel that way in all your clothes. Only wear clothing that inspires you and makes you feel good about yourself. The power is in your hands. Tomorrow consider what you will wear and what you can do to make your outfit more authentically you!
